Bath and Fitness Complex
Ponte Sisto-Ponte Garibaldi, Tiber River, Rome, Italy Fall 2008 _ Tulane Architecture Rome Program Roman streets are a complex system of fissures. Few veins are direct. Consequently, one discovers the city hap-hazardly stumbling upon unexpected wonders. This project uses the same wandering process to change the Tiber walls from a barrier to an introduction of the river. Along the path of introduction, a journey takes place either through the rooms of the baths cascading to the level of the river, or through the sports complex which occupies slender slivers like sheets of shale pealing and breaking to create crevices for different activities to take place. At street level, the project is a green-scape only hinting to the program below with two entrances to the distinct spaces. |
