Dockside Encounter
Hotel and Marina on Turkish Riviera 14 Day Challenge This project is an investigation of how one encounters both water and land. It is common for one to reach the sea by means of a dock slightly above a shadowed, rippling space which flows beneath. The hotel sustains this mysterious space as a new point of experience with the water. A rectangular courtyard building is sited partially onshore and extending over the water as a dock. It is then converted by elevating one side and allowing the space underneath to become occupied. Meanwhile, landscape which flows from the hills above becomes a network of spaces which both connects and mediates between the hotel and marina. This infrastructure also supports an organic farm providing fresh produce which is lacking from nautical life and is more precious in this context due to the rarity of fresh vegetables and fruits at sea. In this way the farm and landscape showcase the significance of ecologically sustainable land use. |
